Our Food Is Fresh… Nothing Has Been Frozen Our initial idea for a richly flavored menu was that our recipes would be made fresh every day. And, that our meats or other food groups would ‘only’ be fresh and never frozen. As we were to find out, this concept is more easily attainable in a traditional sit-down restaurant. Our model, requested by the owner, called for a drive-thru format where a totally fresh menu would be provided for a fast-food restaurant and Phoenicians on the go. The difficulty with serving fresh food in a fast-food delivery style is timing. In a regular restaurant, the food is ordered and the chef or cook puts the meats on the grill or flat top. When it’s done, it is served to the customer. However, in fast food, the traffic speeds have to be anticipated and cooked just ahead of the customer driving through the drive-up lane. Our Brushfire staff, led by Sione Saenz, was able to unlock the secrets of timing and stay committed to providing fresh, never frozen fast food to our customers that really tastes good. [read more]

My passion for baking began at the age of eight when my grandma and I would be found in the kitchen together whipping up something delicious. I took that passion and attended Johnson & Wales University; where I successfully graduated with a degree in Baking & Pastry Arts as well as a Bachelor's in Food Service Management. I worked at the Four Seasons Hotel Denver where I gained priceless knowledge about the hospitality industry and fine dining. After moving back to my home state, Arizona, I became the first pastry chef at an upscale casual restaurant in New River. Javier Ruiz immigrated to the United States in 1967 with the dream of opening a taco shop. Thanks to the success of this restaurant, more of the Ruiz family members were able to become more involved in the company. In 2003, the Ruiz brothers decided it’s time to expand the family business to Tennessee under the name “Oscar’s Taco Shop®.“ Today, Javier Ruiz has handed the keys to his kids and even though he is retired, he reminds them to always look forward and never look back. In 1958 the first Village Inn Pancake House opened its doors in Denver, Colorado and began offering what has since made us famous— made-from-scratch buttermilk pancakes, fresh eggs cooked any style, sizzling bacon and a pot of steaming hot coffee. More than once, vacationers in Denver stopped at Village Inn for a bite to eat and enjoyed it so much that they inquired about franchise opportunities before leaving. Such requests inspired co-founders Merton “Andy” Anderson and Jim Mola to place an ad in The Wall Street Journal for prospective franchisees. Soon after, the first Village Inn franchise started operating in 1961, leading the way for successful franchise development. Our reputation for serving quality all-day breakfast endures and carries over to our lunch, dinner and our award-winning pies. Village Inn serves The Best Pie In America® – like French Silk, Lemon Supreme, Country Apple and Caramel Pecan Silk Supreme. We are proud of our tradition—and happy to be part of our guests’ daily lives. With six decades of success, we have corporate and franchise restaurants totaling more than 200, located primarily in the Rocky Mountain region, the Midwest, Arizona and Florida. Our guests visit Village Inn because they know they will enjoy great-tasting food and extra-friendly service in a clean and comfortable family environment. It’s pretty simple, actually. The Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen in Goodyear, Arizona is all about good food, made well, for a good price. How do we pull that off? By cooking from scratch. That’s our secret ingredient, and it makes for great tasting food at an even better value. What does that mean exactly for the people of Goodyear? That means large plates full of Santa Fe Spinach Dip or Cheddar's Cheese Fries after a day at the Wildlife World Zoo. It means huge Painkiller cocktails (the limit is 2 per person for a reason!) to celebrate the end of a long work week. It's warm, made-in-house Honey Butter Croissants and hand-breaded Chicken Tenders piled high that are perfect for sharing (or not! We won't judge!) THE BEST DONUT IN TOWN The apple fritter will change your life. The classic glazed is as good as they come. The eclair is worth every wonderful calorie. We’re talking, of course, about a little donut shop that’s taken the Valley by storm and now operates over 20 locations and growing! Bosa Donuts is everything you want in a classic donut shop – affordable. fluffy donuts served in a no-frills atmosphere by friendly staff. There are also coffee drinks, breakfast and lunch sandwiches, fruit smoothies, and hot cocoa for the kids on the menu. Although all of those items are worth trying, it’s BoSa’s unfettered take on donuts that has won them, love, from Valley residents. Bosa doesn’t try to reinvent donut recipes or show off donut bravado with culinary skills, they just simply make the perfect donut. Period. Whether you’re in Chandler, Gilbert, Mesa, Tempe, Casa Grande, Phoenix, or Scottsdale, you’ve got access to Bosa 24/7. (Seriously, they’re open 24 hours a day, seven days per week.) Bosa is opening soon at 32nd Street and Shea, as well as University Drive and Greenfield. Some locations even feature a drive-thru. which is perfect for early morning commuters or late night snackers. Will you order a chocolate-filled glazed donut or a maple covered bar? Will you choose multi-colored sprinkles or dark ones? Will you throw in a Bavarian Cream or cinnamon roll? Donuts cost around $1 here (a dozen costs between $9-$14, depending on the style), so maybe you want to forsake all the decision-making and simply grab a dozen for the office or family. – David Tyda.
