We are a family owned restaurant specializing in home-style cooking from El Salvador and Central America. Our recipes trace back to our homeland of El Salvador where “Niña Martha” became known by her community for her delicious chicken tamales, fresh green corn tamales and various other homemade meals that she would send her daughter Miriam to deliver to the workers at the “fincas”, the fields of coffee beans and corn. After relocating to Arizona, in 2002, the family opened up their first location in Mesa, AZ. Fast forward to 2021, the business has grown to 2 locations in Phoenix, 2 in Mesa, 1 in El Mirage, 1 in California and a new location opening in 2022. We’re very proud of the beautiful shop that we’ve built in Peoria, Arizona. We’re very proud of the great specialty coffee that we serve from Peixoto. We’re even proud of the matte black Not Neutral mugs that we serve our drinks in. But anyone could build something nice, serve something delicious, or buy some neat drinkware. We’re proud of a lot of things, but we’re most proud of the community that we get to experience each and every day in and around our shop. And we certainly didn’t build this community – it was here in the surrounding neighborhoods and schools long before we broke ground. Rather, we saw an opportunity to serve and host this thriving community and concluded that a great coffee shop would be a great way to do this. Pepe’s Restaurants have continuously served the Southland with fine quality Mexican food. Pepe’s was founded in 1962 by three brothers, Joe, Tony and Fred. Unable to find steady business at first, the location was changed several times before finally settling in Alhambra in 1962, where the name was changed permanently to “Pepe’s.” During these early years, the brothers often relied on the help of family members to keep the business growing. In 1962, their nephew “Pepe” was sent to fight in Vietnam. This is when Tony, out of love for his nephew, renamed the restaurant after him, Pepe's.
