In 1958 the first Village Inn Pancake House opened its doors in Denver, Colorado and began offering what has since made us famous— made-from-scratch buttermilk pancakes, fresh eggs cooked any style, sizzling bacon and a pot of steaming hot coffee. More than once, vacationers in Denver stopped at Village Inn for a bite to eat and enjoyed it so much that they inquired about franchise opportunities before leaving. Such requests inspired co-founders Merton “Andy” Anderson and Jim Mola to place an ad in The Wall Street Journal for prospective franchisees. Soon after, the first Village Inn franchise started operating in 1961, leading the way for successful franchise development. Our reputation for serving quality all-day breakfast endures and carries over to our lunch, dinner and our award-winning pies. Pepe’s Restaurants have continuously served the Southland with fine quality Mexican food. Pepe’s was founded in 1962 by three brothers, Joe, Tony and Fred. Unable to find steady business at first, the location was changed several times before finally settling in Alhambra in 1962, where the name was changed permanently to “Pepe’s.” During these early years, the brothers often relied on the help of family members to keep the business growing. In 1962, their nephew “Pepe” was sent to fight in Vietnam. This is when Tony, out of love for his nephew, renamed the restaurant after him, Pepe's. In the following years, the restaurant had become a great success. However, in 1973 Tony passed away leaving Joe and Fred to run the business solely.
