History
Established in 2010.
We wanted to recreate the authentic tastes of comfort foods we grew up on in the Indian subcontinent. The founder-chef travelled, begged, burrowed and mastered recipes of wildly popular roadside joints, restaurants & weddings’ master-cooks.
There was a food truck event at my local mall and I decided to try out this truck. The employees were nice and the menu was easy to understand. I had the "Famous special" which was a chicken kathi roll and a chicken tikka masala for $14. It was a good amount of food, but thankfully it was the first thing I ate that day. The chicken was cooked great, but I will note that the sauce at times tasted a bit "off" as in possibly more prepackaged/not mixed well. Not bad mind you, just "off", if you aren't used to Indian food you honestly wouldn't notice. The kathi roll tasted good and was pretty warm, but the chicken tikka masala rice was a bit "off" as well. Not bad but could be better. I will say that I love that they used raw onions. That's authentic Indian, be wary if an Indian restaurant isn't ready to give you raw onions. If I ever come here again I'd love to try the shrimp kathi roll. I'd recommend the roll if you go.
This is clearly the less popular Indian truck than the one with the 20 or so chaat choices whose name I don't know. Plus this place only gives you two dishes while the chaat truck gives you three.
They have a great aloo matar curry if you like a huge plate of peas. Maybe it has, like, two hunks of potato because apparently they're prized and expensive. The spice balance lacks acidity, but is still edible. And honestly, sometimes I do want a huge plate of peas.
The Amritsar chickpeas have a tangy tamarind flavor and are worth ordering if that truck advertising all the chaats isn't on Water Street.
My favorite thing about this truck is the naan which is large and fragrant.
Plus, I've stopped going to the chaat truck since the guy manning it has a slightly creepy, intense vibe with regulars that puts me off, awkward chick that I am. These guys are pretty polite and all business.
Wow! Just wow! Went to the "food truck festival" at Smithaven Mall .. I got there at 7:40, they close at 8, only 2 food food trucks were open, this and Mexican. Anyway - the possible owner was hanging out of the window of the truck and offered my boyfriend something, he asked if he wanted it spicy and my boyfriend did, as my boyfriend bit into it the gentleman said if you like it you can pay for it and if you don't like it it's free. My boyfriend loved it, as did I because I then ordered the 3 for 10 Puri bhaji. The Puri bhaji, AKA game changer, was taco style with a green and a red sauce. I got the vegetable one, which was potato, and my boyfriend got the chicken one and beef one. Then my boyfriend is waiting for his to be done and the gentleman gave him something else to try, but this was a chicken Kati Roll. I tried a bite of it and it just had some great flavor. With that being said my boyfriend went back and bought 3 for 10 Puri bhaji and 1 beeg kati roll. Wow! Try if possible!
Delicious! Had the Aloo Masala Kati Roll and he gave me a sample of the Puri Bhaji and both were really great. The man working was also a really nice guy and the prices were very reasonable. Definitely order if you see it around!
