We've been coming to Popo's for years! The service is always great and the food is delicious! When we have visitors in town, this is where we go if they are craving Mexican food.

The attached pictures are from our last visit which was this past Friday. We got there around 6:30pm. The wait to be seated was around 20mins. Which isn't bad for a Friday night. Once we were seated some immediately brought us water, chips and salsa. He also took our drink order. Well we were waiting for our drinks our server came to greet us and confirm our drink order was taken. We order 3 soft drinks and a house margarita on the rocks. Not to long after we placed our order.

The food came out hot and fresh within 15 mins. We ordered a Cheese Crisp with added beans, the Carnitas plate and the Mix & Match with a Cheese Enchilada and a Bean Tostada. Everything was excellent. The portion of carnitas you get is great. We had leftovers that I ate the next day as a burrito. So good!

If you're looking for good Mexican food, this is the place to go!

This is great Tex-Mex!

I know, I'll get some haters, but honestly, the food is so good! Everything is HOME cooked, but not everything screams Mexico! So yeah, not authentic, but Uber loved!

Appetizer:
Cheese crisps... get it.
Don't argue, just do it.
If I had a pic, it wouldn't do it justice. So just trust me.

Everything I've had here has been nothing short of delish.

Not sure where my pics went, but consider outdoor seating in nice days, too!

Our daughter used to work at the Oregano's down the street and she brought us here. It was one of the Oregano's staff favorites.

Pope's is an extremely popular Mexican restaurant on the northeast corner of 59th and Bell. It's nicely decorated and very busy.

We arrived and were quoted a 20 minute wait time. We decided to have a drink at the bar while we waited and ended up eating there.

My wife had the chicken tacos with grilled vegetables. I didn't get and pictures (we were hungry ), but everything looked very good.

Our daughter had the beef burrito with red sauce. She's normally a light eater, but she finished most of this burrito. Translation = she loved it.

I had the shrimp fajita burrito. It was outstanding! The veggies were crisp and very flavorful. Lot's of good sized shrimp. Great burrito.

We didn't know it until we got the bill, but Tuesday's is 99 cent Margarita night. (Sorry my NC friends, Arizona allows special alcoholic beverage pricing).

We'll be back. Probably on Tuesday

The high reviews I think are honestly from people who have never had authentic Mexican food. But this is really one of those places where you have to have a craving for this type of food. We had the chimichangas both machaca but my husband had the dinner plate I had the special. He was able to get it smothered in green sauce I was only able to get one topping.
The meat was so dry I thought it was jerky. There really wasn't any flavor to it. They burnt part of my chimichanga and tried to hide it by flipping it in the side. The beans taste like they are canned beans, which there isn't anything wrong with that but your claiming to be a Mexican restaurant so I would expect the beans to be made there. I think honestly the people come here for the drinks. Everyone around us had a margarita or some sort of drink. The staff was nice and restroom area was clean.
