Matt's Big Breakfast opened its doors in late October, 2004 on a quiet street corner in downtown Phoenix. The tiny red brick 800-square foot restaurant would grow to become one of the most popular in Arizona, with lines stretching out the door every day. Eight years later, MBB moved half a block north to a larger location, allowing us to serve our loyal regulars more comfortably. Despite our larger size, our menu, quality of food and friendly service remain the same as before - dedicated to providing you a best in class breakfast experience every time.
This is not my first time here but it was my bf's first time.
We arrived at 7:30am and the service from beginning to end was AMAZING! We were given the option to sit inside or outside with 0 wait time. I believe after 8am it's a long wait but very WORTH IT!
Thank you for making us feel welcomed, preparing an excellent breakfast, and for making everything feel just right !
The reason for the 1 isn't necessarily because of the food. I would probably have bumped it to a 2 but the owners should know really why they deserve a 1. We put our name on the wait list after being told 20-25 minutes. Now we all l know that you should probably expect 30 minutes. We ended up waiting 40 but it gets better. We watched a woman walk up with a party of 5. After being told it was about a 40 min wait, she slipped the hostess fella a $20 to jump ahead of the line. Within 10 min he was calling her name to let her know that we was working on pushing two tables together for their party. On his walk back I called him out on his BS & said "If I slip you a $50, does that mean I get to jump the line too." His response "ha ha, maybe. I didn't keep the money though, I gave it to the other girl." After being told we still had about 7 people ahead of us, we miraculously were seated. Coincidence? I think not. I think calling him out on his BS is what got us to our table after a 40 min wait.
The food wasn't even worth the wait. It reminded me of a fast food diner and we all know that food is only glorious when you're super hungover. Also, I don't know what was going on in the kitchen but they were extremely slow because once seated, we waited about 25-30 min for a scramble and pancakes.
Do yourself a favor & walk right by this joke shop.
Food was good although very standard. I enjoyed my omelette with hash browns. The hash brown were super good. Otherwise I was not blown away.
I would like for potential customers to be aware of the negatives, because I know I am not the only one who likes to have brunch in a quieter, more relaxed place. The employees are all very friendly and helpful - when you can catch their attention. They run around like crazy, taking care of everybody, and I have to give them credit when there are so many to take care of. Of course, this translates into distraction, which results in slowness. The tables are so close together as if they were trying to cram in as many customers as possible, and it's very difficult to carry on a conversation. The food, of course, may be worth it, but not to me. I will leave it to the many younger folks I saw there, who don't mind the noise, and are in fact part of it. They all seemed to be having fun; good for them! Guess I'm too old.
PS! Another thing I have no patience for is the metal chairs SCRAAAAPING on the floor anytime they are moved.. Hard to understand why they don't put those rubber/plastic feet on all of the chair legs!
I don't want to be all negative, so I hope you can read between the lines where there are some positive remarks.
