Inventive burritos, tacos & quesadillas are the forte of this counter-serve spot with a salsa bar.
Our aim is to deliver everything that is exciting and fresh about Mexican cuisine to the people of Arizona, banishing old perceptions of heavy, greasy, taste-bud-searing, so-called “Tex-Mex.”
Where do I start? This place was unbelievable in so many ways! Let's start with the guacamole dip. Home made with very unique ingredients like Mango (What?). But oh so good! We went thru the first bowl and quickly added another order.
Then we all had different taco dishes and they were just amazing!
I can see what this place made Guy Diners Drive ins and Dives list. It was the BEST Mexican food any of us had ever consumed! Carne Asada Tacos rocked!
This taco shop had such good reviews, so my family and I decided to give it a try! We tried calling ahead to see if we could make a reservation or see if there was a wait, but no one picked up.
Service: This was the most disappointing part of the dining experience. This restaurant is heavily understaffed, and there was only one waiter who was serving all tables (they were at about 60-70% capacity), as well as working as the host seating people. We had to wait a while to get seated, get our orders taken, and get our check. While they were understaffed, the one waiter was doing a great job.
Food: So I honestly couldn't really tell a difference between the Baja sur baby shark taco and the whitefish taco. They both come with the same toppings and salsa, and the breading on both tasted the exact same. Regardless, they were both delicious. The breaded fish was nice and crispy, and while I don't like cilantro, the salsa with cilantro was tasty (I couldn't taste any of the cilantro). I also added some of the guacamole salsa from the salsa bar to these tacos and loved this combo for some extra flavor. The Al pastor pork taco was also tasty! It came with a generous portion of meat that was well seasoned, juicy, and flavorful. We also got horchata that had some nice chunks of fruit and nuts, and had a lot of cinnamon.
Overall: If I were to come back again, I would get just one fish taco and try the roasted pork shoulder taco since it looks delicious and has great reviews. The salsa bar is extensive with multiple options for different heat levels. It was fun trying out all the different salsas, and we ordered a second basket of chips to try more salsas!
I loved the food here! The tacos I had were so good, and there's a huge selection. There's also a salsa bar, which is a unique feature and very fun!
I will say that the service we had here was very slow (it looked like there was only 1 server working), so I would probably give this place a 4.5 due to the slow service. Our server was super friendly, I think they're just understaffed.
To start, we had chips and enjoyed the salsa bar! This was very fun to try all the different varieties of salsa; my favorite was probably the chipotle salsa. We also had a horchata to drink and this was yummy. It was larger than I thought it was going to be and filled with lots of fruits and nuts.
For my tacos I got the Mayan Cochinita Pibil, Azteca Tinga, and the Baja Sur Baby Shark. All of these tacos were really good and very flavorful! My favorite was the Mayan Cochinita Pibil - the pork meat was sooooo tender and juicy.
Overall a good experience and the food is delicious!! Just wish the service was a little faster, but I understand they are probably understaffed.
My friend and I were celebrating the Marine Corps Bday, but before having a few drinks we knew we needed to eat, so we decided on tacos. Since this place has been on our Taco Bucket List for some time (it's a really long list), we hopped on the opportunity to try it out.
We started with the guacamole which had all sorts of extra ingredients that we weren't used to, but weren't mad about. Overall, it was pretty good. The salsa bar has at least 12-15 different types. Also, many we had never imagined before. I liked the cilantro salsa. A little watery, but good. My friend Roni liked the pecan salsa. Interesting. Be careful, some have quite the kick!
I ordered a grapefruit margarita which was delicious! Not too sweet... perfect! Roni ordered a beer and it came in a mini bucket of ice. I dunno what it is about small things, but we both said "Awwwww" like it was a puppy or something. Haha.
We each ordered the Mix & Match which comes with 3 tacos of your choosing, and either a side of grilled zucchini or rice & beans. The tacos were delicious. The ambiance was chill. And our server, Sanna, was the bee's knees. From the moment she greeted us until we left the restaurant... she was amazing! Not only was she super informative about the menu options (the menu is huge), but her friendliness and fun nature really completed the experience. I absolutely LOVE when servers/bartenders/staff can have a good time and laugh with us.
Sanna... you're the real MVP!
