The name of the restaurant lured me in as it's my father's name. And it was also my birthday. Was craving otoro as nowhere else in the other copycat Japanese restaurants in the west valley offered it. It was good. Was surprised to also have amaebi and lucked out with their last order of natto...two other sushi not offered in the other restaurants we've been to.

Pros...
The sushi was good and the fish tasted quite fresh. Ambience was nice. Questioned the big TV. Was more like a sports bar setting with many tuned in to the playoffs. lol. Takes away from the tranquil Japanese decor and setting most other higher end sushi bars offer. Our waitress was excellent as she was the only one working the floor and catered to a busy crowd. They catered to our bday request. Oh and I had to mention thank you for having ONE nice easy to read menu. Unlike all those 'other' Japanese restaurants with four or five sheet of paper thrown at you. I don't get that either. LOL

Cons...
My wife's sushi salad mimicked a 'chirashi' and had more veggies than anything. My son's chicken katsu tasted of the frozen type. So sad they can't make it fresh. It's not that difficult. The table on the side were kinda close to each other and didn't make for too much privacy. The couple that got seated same time as us and next to us, moved several times. An omakase offering would be awesome for hardcore sushi lovers.

Prices were reasonable. Keep offering the otoro and we'll be back. Got several other places on my list to check out. But I'll be back for sure.

Our usual favorite sushi spots were both closed and after a day of house hunting we had a craving for some sushi. I set in search and came upon Haru. I had high expectations after reading the reviews but our experience fell short.

Haru is in a nice little strip mall with plenty of parking. The atmosphere is nice and they even have a large tv to watch the games. Our waitress was friendly and service was pretty good but the food left us with much to be desired. The prices are a bit steep, portions are not as plenty as our usual and the flavors were lacking. Without adding soy sauce or eel sauce the rolls were very dry and bland. I also shared the salmon teriyaki with my daughter and it was pretty good but again, the flavor missed the mark.

For two adults and one toddler our bill was nearly $70.

I love this restaurant. Moved to Arizona within the last year and have tried many sushi places and this one is my favorite. I just love the paradise roll. It melts in your mouth. They have other delicious rolls as well. Service is great.
