Living up in Norterra area my wife and I thought we were never going to find real/good Mexican food, so I'm glad we finally stumbled upon Caminero!

We've now been there 3 times, take out twice and dine-in once... all 3 times have been amazing.

Now let me start off by saying this, the vibe and feel of this place is nothing to write home about (hint, hint... this is usually how you can tell the good ones from the bad). This has the look of a family owned restaurant who is concerned about making bomb-a** food and thats it! The people working there are always friendly, and the food is amazing... thats matters. Prices aren't bad at all either.

We have had the flautas, nachos, burritos, tacos, and carne asada plate... every single one of them have been amazing. It's also not going to cost you an arm and a leg to take this good food home with you.

If you want a good atmosphere with Americanized Mexican food that you will pay $15-25 a plate for, go check out one of those chain restaurants that everyone loves so much in our neighbourhood (no hate, there's definitely a time and a place for those types of restaurants)... if you want good and authentic food that is reasonably priced, check out Caminero!

I've driven by Caminero many times over the years and have mostly ignored them, much like I do most places in the area that serve this style of Mexican food. I mean, if it were that good, I probably would have heard about it by now, right?

. . . And then I did.

Caminero's quesadilla received some extremely high praise from a local food writer, which was enough to spike my curiosity.

My girlfriend and I shared one of their quesadillas with asada, which I was definitely impressed with. The tortilla and meat flavor were excellent. And while the taco and enchilada didn't quite have the same "wow" factor, that doesn't necessarily mean they were bad, because they were not.

In fact, everything we had here was passable, which means it might be worth making some return trips to in the near future. However, something tells me I'll always end up defaulting to their quesadilla.

Check them out!

Caminero is a small casual, not fancy Mexican Restaurant located in a strip mall in North Peoria. They offer a LONG menu of many of your Mexican favorites, breakfast items, a kid's menu, and soft beverages. Prices are low portions are large.

Someone from the newspaper recently wrote an article that the beef fajita quesadilla was the best that she has ever had anywhere and the beef fajita meat here is the gold standard to her so I felt that I needed to try it.

We ordered and the people there seemed very nice and helpful. I ordered the beef fajita plate and my husband ordered the steak and onion plate. In reasonable time someone runs out our plates and offers us salsas.

I receive a very large plate of food with good tasting white corn tortillas. The beef is tender and developed with flavors......Just too much flavor and too much salt for my taste......Maybe good for most people that can handle more salt than me. It taste like soy sauce and a seasoning table salt to me. I thought the salsas were good and the guacamole was good.

My husband liked the steak and onion plate. He said that it was tastier than the beef fajita plate. I tried to taste it but couldn't after all the salt and soy from the fajita plate.

Sometime in the future I'll give it another try and try something chicken or fish next time.

3 stars is a positive review on Yelp and means A-OK.

This place is pretty good and busy. Probably saw 5 Uber drivers grab pickups while I was there.

Staff was so amazingly sweet was apologetic for the wait threw in a grip of their amazing salsa. Get the hot red one. I was sweating but damn was that a fine tasting salsa.

Their carne asada is absolutely some of the best you'll find on the NW side. Perfectly seasoned and charred. The tortilla was just asi-asi.

Rice was bland. Like no flavor that I could discern at all.

Mini chimis were good. Good fry but a little skimpy on the filling got a little soggy in the to go box but what can you do.

It's a good place. Better than your typical drive thru Mexican joint.
