Cafe Chenar in Phoenix is the first Bukharian/ Uzbek restaurant, famous for traditional kosher dishes.
Was our 2nd choice as Gil's Taste of Taos next door was closed for a private catering event. Sat down to order after looking at the menu; however, everything was a la carte and very pricey. I excused ourselves after deciding not to be nickled and dimed. Waitress was.cordial and not friendly. Two of the other employees (1 who appeared to be the owner) looked at us strangely upon entering which initiated the uncomfortableness.
I loved visiting cafe Chenar! I've traveled in eastern Europe, but I've never had Uzbek food before. Everything we tried was tasty. If you're looking for a unique night out, this is a fun place to go try.
One of our favorite restaurants! Good Plov and Shashlik. We always order a lot of dishes because they are all authentic and tasty and good - healthy too! Chicken tabac is good too! Liver shashlik is always done right too!
Service was a little interesting to say the least.
You won't really find Bukharan Cuisine anywhere else in town, so it's unique. I like the appetizer options, but the entrees were a little underwhelming. However I'll give this place a 2nd try at some point.
Really delicious food! I love the atmosphere of the place, it made the experience 10x better. The staff was so nice and helped me pick out different things that I might enjoy. I got a number of different plates, and everyone in my family was really happy with it. The meat is juicy and had great seasoning. The picture I have does not include everything we ordered, just the appetizers. The rest we ate right away because it looked and tasted so good. 10 out of 10 would recommend.
