My father used to live in a neighborhood nearby this place about 20 years ago and he has been dining here ever since, then when he met my mom he began to bring her too! I've been eating from this place since I was a baby in the womb, and 23 years later I'm still eating Big Hengs!
The entire staff still gets so excited when my family come. It's nice they remember us, even now that we live a bit far and don't come as often as we should. To start off: the food is always amazing! It comes out insanely fast considering the quality and portions are so large. Even during a busy time you'll weight a maximum of 15 minutes for all the courses to be brought out. The prices are also very fair. A dinner for 4-5 people costs around $55 because everything is meant to be shared.
The inside and outside of the building are a bit old, but it's very clean and everything is authentic. We always get the cream cheese wontons, which are fried lightly brown and have a semi-sweet filling. SO good. There's 10 in an order and the sweet and so he sauce on the side is perfect pair with them.
My mother and I order the egg drop soup as well, it's a perfect consistency; not too thick or thin and the egg is light and fluffy. It's got the right amount of broth-salt taste without overwhelming you, and I like that the egg portion is so large. (Many places give mostly broth and 20% egg)
For entrees we order the sesame chicken, egg Foo young, and emperors chicken. They come in huge portions, and with the appetizers we always have leftovers because our order could easily feed 4-5.
The sesame chicken is not what you think of when you eat it at other places. It's fried a bit lighter and the sauce is sweeter then expected but it is so good!
The emperors is that perfect spicy flavor without taking away from the sauce or chicken flavor. So good!
Finally.. the egg foo young is my favorite!! The order is huge it comes with 3 large egg omelettes that are light and fluffy and soft, with a heaping amount of vegetables and sauce. The sauce is one of the best I have ever had and I'm thankful they give so much because I cover my veggie fried rice, and everything else in it as well!Overall we love this place. Please stop in and give it a try! They have many regulars who often fill the dining room, but they love new customers as well.
Besides, if the place has been open 20+ years and most people continuously come back, there must be a good reason.P.S I took these pictures halfway through our meal so imagine some of these portions doubled. We just got a little excited
We came here after seeing a play at the local theater. I heard this place was really good, and that's a fact!
The portions here are large and the prices are right. The taste and temperature of the food were both meeting expectations.
I got the happy family with just broccoli and mushrooms and a cup of wonton soup and a cup of egg drop soup. The soups were a nice portion for the price and they were both tasty. I liked them more than any other place I've visited in AZ so far. The meats were tasty with the sauce which I loved. The only issue were a couple or mushy shrimp.
The cream cheese wontons were also great in my opinion. They tasted semi sweet and the filling was ample. The wontons were fried to a nice golden brown as well.
We also got the teriyaki chicken dinner combo #2. It came with lo mein and it was cooked well and the portion was large. The food all around was awesome. The staff were friendly as well from the initial order via phone, to picking it up at the restaurant.
I highly recommend this place. So good.
This place is close by and we were hungry. We got a dinner combination #2 which was teriyaki chicken, chicken lo mein, rice, eggroll and crab puff, also ordered a side of steamed dumplings. The service was quick and friendly and the wait was not long.
As with most Asian restaurants the portions are huge! The teriyaki chicken was good and the sauce was great. The chicken lomein was really tasty with lots of chicken throughout. The egg roll and crab puff were great as well. The dumplings were a miss and only because the sauce! Lol the sauce tasted like straight soy sauce and I hated it. I ended up googling and making my own sauce.
Overall, there's a lot of other Asian spots close by that hit all the marks. Bummer this place doesn't deliver either.
